Hba1c

Regular blood glucose testing by people with diabetes is important to help control it, and also prevent long-term complications. Good control of blood glucose levels can prevent or reduce serious complications.

The HBA1C blood test, also known as the Hemoglobin (Hgb) A1c test, is much more effective in evaluating your blood glucose control since the results give you an average of your blood glucose level over a two to three months period. Sometimes an individual can fool himself or herself into a sense of false security because they think they are making sufficient changes in their diets and exercise routines sufficient to prevent damage from elevated glucose.

Unfortunately testing blood glucose levels at home only once or twice a day is wildly dangerous. If you only test your glucose in the morning upon rising it can be perfectly normal and not reflect the bowl of ice cream that you had the night before after which your glucose level went to 250 and beyond. That 250 level, even for a short time, does immediate and long-term damage to your body and blood vessels. This is damage that would even be hidden from your physician for too long of a time without access to the use of the HBA1C blood test.

Regular self testing, recording of blood glucose levels by thumb prick blood tests, laboratory test of HbA1c (glycosylated haemoglobin) level a few times a year should be taken.
Other tests that should be performed routinely include: urine test to monitor kidney function; blood fat levels (cholesterol & triglyceride levels), and tests for kidney function.
Regular blood pressure measurement and treatment if needed.

HbA1c (glycosylated haemoglobin) gets collected in red blood cells when they are produced. This gives a clue about the blood sugar levels over a couple of months – the average lifespan of a red blood cell. Thus, this test shows the average blood glucose level over time, as compared to the thumb prick test, which indicates blood glucose at the time of testing.

What does hemoglobin A1C (HbA1c) testing reveal? This is a blood test that measures your average glucose level over the previous two to three months. It indicates the percentage of hemoglobin (the oxygen carrying part of blood) that has become glycated. Glycated means it has a glucose molecule attached. This is always proportional to the amount of glucose in your blood.

The higher the level of HbA1c, the greater the risk of developing diabetic complications. This should be measured two to four times a year, depending on your type of diabetes. You should aim to keep it under 7%.

If the HbA1c level is above 7%, consult a doctor for a better diabetes management plan.
If the HbA1c level is above 8%, the doctor may change medication or a more intensive insulin regime be used.

The combination of HbA1c test and thumb prick test results give a better indication of variations in blood glucose levels than either test alone. It is best to check glucose levels first thing in the morning; and before and after meals. Keep changing daily test times to get a better idea of the changes to blood glucose levels.

Diabetes Type 1

There are two types of diabetes: the type 1 diabetes and the type 2 diabetes. The first type of diabetes is less common than the first. The diabetes type 1 affects people who are younger, some in their teenage years. This happens because this diabetes type is mainly associated with the lack of insulin in ones body.

Type 1 diabetes is a disease that occurs when your pancreas does not produce any or enough insulin. Insulin is a hormone that breaks down your food for energy. In order for your body to absorb the glucose (sugar) from the meals you eat, you must have insulin injections. There are many different types of insulin manufactured in the United States. Each is used and made differently, as well as differ greatly in price.

Type I diabetes often causes quick weight loss, even though you may have increased the amount of food you eat. It can also cause you to always feel tired, it can make you feel nauseous, and give you blurry vision. Type 1 Diabetes is also known to have dry mouth, bad breath, and slowed healing as symptoms as well.

The cause of type 1 diabetes is the islet cells of the pancreas. When your body starts to see one of your tissues as foreign, that is when this type of diabetes happens. The main cause for this
disorder that leads to diabetes is genetics. It can also be a result of a viral infection, measles, rubella, polio that can be the cause of diabetes. Some of the people may also have a genetical tendency to develop diabetes.

The symptoms for diabetes type 1 may vary for each individual, but these are the more common symptoms.

Type 1diabetes may also be known by a variety of other names, like insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), juvenile diabetes, brittle diabetes, sugar diabetes. Type 1 diabetes accounts for 5 to 10 percent of all identified cases of diabetes in the US.

The steps listed below are some of the steps that can be taken to control diabetes type 1:

- Never skip insulin as prescribe

- Eat healthy by watching the amount of carbohydrate you take and follow diabetic diet plan as strictly as possible.

- Watch your blood sugar content without fail

- Get physical exercise and do it regularly

Treating diabetes will help the body maintains as close to normal its blood sugar content. Diabetes type 1 are lifelong illness where there are no cure, as such the treatments is also lifelong. To remain healthy, diabetics must observe lifelong treatments through proper eating and exercising throughout their lives.

Type 1 Diabetes Causes:

Type 1 diabetes is the result of the body’s failure to produce insulin, the hormone that allows glucose to enter the cells of the body to provide fuel. Insulin is a protein that is speedily broken down in the digestive area. In type 1 diabetes, the body can no longer create insulin, so the glucose can’t acquire into the body’s cells.

Type 1 Diabetes Treatment:

Type 1 Diabetes Patient need to monitor and control their glucose levels. They need to test blood sugar levels a few times a day by testing a small blood sample, give themselves insulin injections or use an insulin pump, eat a balanced, healthy diet and pay special attention to the quantities of sugars and starches in the food they eat and the timing of their meals, get habitual exercise to help manage blood sugar levels and help avoid some of the long-term health problems that can cause diabetes like heart disease

Insulin therapy is the origin of type 1 diabetes treatment. When insulin was first discovered and made accessible for people with diabetes, there was only one type of fast-acting insulin and this required several injections in a day.
